Water supply and wastewater treatment are among the most underfunded utilities sectors in Ukraine. All their infrastructure is underground, so municipalities do not have any political credit in allocating funds for this sector, since people cannot see the tangible results.

The NIP Ukraine Water Modernisation Programme, funded by the European Union (EU), started back in 2020 with the aim to modernise water and wastewater treatment systems in Ukraine, increase energy efficiency and improve the water quality and distribution services to thousands of Ukrainians.
Programmet Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) har undertecknat ytterligare två avtal med företag som tillhandahåller energitjänster utanför elnätet för att stödja expansionen och uppskalningen av solcellsdrivna vattenpumpar i Uganda och högklassiga solcellssystem för hushåll i Zambia.
