From ambition to action for nature
Nature underpins resilient communities, sustainable economies and climate action. As a green financial institution, we recognise that climate and nature are closely interconnected. By integrating biodiversity considerations into our operations, we aim to better understand nature-related risks, identify opportunities for positive impact and strengthen the long-term sustainability of our activities.
Our Biodiversity Roadmap
By 2030, we aim to systematically integrate biodiversity considerations into relevant financing, operations and partnerships and demonstrate biodiversity benefits through selected activities.
To achieve this, we are focusing on four areas:

Build capability
Strengthen internal knowledge, tools and responsibilities for biodiversity integration.

Integrate nature
Embed biodiversity considerations into financing and operations.

Mobilise partners
Work with clients, donors, experts and peer institutions to advance practical solutions.

Build and share evidence
Evaluate results, communicate lessons learned and scale approaches that demonstrate positive outcomes for nature.
Our objective is simple: to strengthen how our financing, operations and partnerships contribute to nature while building a robust evidence base for future action.
How we work on biodiversity in practice
Our approach to nature comes to life through practical implementation. Through our Biodiversity Pilot Programme, we develop and test practical approaches together with client companies and expert partners’. The aim is to identify biodiversity impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities and integrate them into business and investment decisions.
We also contribute to biodiversity through the Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund, which supports projects that improve the ecological status of the Baltic Sea and generate tangible environmental benefits.
The experience gained helps us refine our approach and identify where financing can make the greatest contribution to nature. These lessons support the implementation of our biodiversity roadmap towards 2030.

Biodiversity and the global framework for nature
The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the world’s primary international treaty for conserving biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources.
In 2022, the Parties to the Convention adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which sets global goals and targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and achieve a vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050.
Financial institutions have an important role in achieving these goals. Through financing and investment decisions, they can help address nature-related risks, support more sustainable practices and mobilise capital towards activities that contribute to healthy ecosystems and resilient economies.

Our biodiversity roadmap reflects this broader international direction. By integrating biodiversity considerations into our operations and strengthening our understanding of nature-related impacts and opportunities, we aim to contribute to positive outcomes for both people and nature.
