Through the InvestEU Programme, Nefco offers EIF-backed financing that helps Nordic SMEs invest in sustainability, strengthen competitiveness and scale their business.
Nordic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can now access financing for a wider range of sustainable investments and activities through Nefco, following an expansion of the EIF-backed sustainability guarantee.
The updated sustainability guarantee broadens eligibility beyond traditional green investments. Eligible areas may include:
- Sustainable enterprises (including sustainable and green businesses, climate-related intellectual property rights, certified and awarded enterprises)
- Circular economy and resource efficiency
- Climate mitigation and environmental sustainability
- Environmental protection and biodiversity
This wider scope means that more companies can potentially benefit from improved access to financing and more favourable loan terms. In addition to sustainability-focused investments and activities, the EIF guarantee may also support projects strengthening SME competitiveness and productivity and business expansion based on financial viability criteria.

Nefco and EIF partnership
Nefco has offered EIF-backed financing to Nordic SMEs since 2025, as part of its efforts to improve access to sustainable finance in the region.
Through its partnership with the European Investment Fund (EIF) under the InvestEU Programme, Nefco channels EU-backed guarantees to support SME investments and activities in the green transition and competitiveness.
