The global volume of waste is rising, creating a critical challenge. Nefco’s financing will support WasteHero’s international expansion, bringing smarter waste management solutions to new markets.
Nefco, the Nordic Green Bank, and WasteHero ApS have signed a EUR 1.3 million loan agreement. Nefco’s financing, which is partially guaranteed by the European Investment Fund (EIF), will support the international scale-up of the Danish company’s operations.
WasteHero is a Software as a Service (SaaS) company, providing a software platform for optimising waste management operations through advanced technology and automation. The company’s mission is to enable municipalities, waste operators, and haulers to achieve sustainable operations while reducing costs and improving service quality.
With municipal solid waste predicted to nearly double in amount between 2023 and 2050 (according to UN‘s Global Waste Management Outlook 2024), a significant challenge for waste management systems is to be expected worldwide. The European Union aims to achieve recycling rates of 65% for municipal waste by 2030, along with other waste recycling targets, but waste management services must also focus on reducing emissions, for example through improved energy efficiency of waste collection systems.
WasteHero’s software, NewWays™, addresses these challenges and allows its users to enhance separation and sorting, leading to higher recycling rates and more efficient waste management. The company’s solution is already used to optimise waste operations on a global scale, showing results of up to a 37% reduction in operational costs and 95% increase in collection accuracy (according to WasteHero’s website).
