NEFCO has signed a loan agreement with the city of Kropyvnytskyi in Central Ukraine to implement energy-saving measures in the city. The building of the comprehensive school No. 31 will be refurbished and the street lighting upgraded. In addition to saving energy and mitigating climate change, these measures are expected to bring a range of benefits to the citizens in their everyday life.
The renovation of the public school No. 31 will improve the learning environment for schoolchildren attending both compulsory school and upper secondary school as well as for their teachers, and the upgrading of the street lighting will increase the safety for the inhabitants in the city. The planned renovation measures as well as changing the street lighting to environmentally friendly LED lights will result in cost savings for the city from the reduction in both electricity and heat usage and lead to CO2 reductions.
The comprehensive school No. 31 was built in 1987, and since then only minor repairs have been carried out at the school premises, and it requires a thorough thermal modernisation. The planned measures include insulation of walls, ceilings and plinths, replacement of doors and windows, installation of a new ventilation system and insulation of pipelines. The old fluorescent lamps will be replaced with LED fixtures within the project scope as will the outdoor lighting surrounding the school.
The overall length of the lighting network in the city is over 300 km and includes more than 8,300 lamps. The maintenance is handled by the municipal enterprise Misksvitlo. Almost 570 of the street lamps in the city will be replaced with energy-saving LED lamps along 21 streets.
The project will result in 627 tonnes of annual CO2 emission reductions and reduce the sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and dust emissions. The cost savings for the city will be approx. EUR 72,000 annually. NEFCO will loan finance the project with approx. EUR 370,000.

Kropyvnytskyi is situated some 300 km south-east of Kyiv and is the administrative centre of Kirovohrad Oblast, which has a population of 232,000 inhabitants. The Inhul river starts north of the city and flows through connecting rivers into the Black Sea.
NEFCO’s Energy Saving Credits loan programme has funded 65 projects in Ukraine since 2012, in over 50 cities all over the country. Currently, 29 of these projects are being implemented. Under the terms of the facility, NEFCO can finance up to 90% or EUR 400,000, in local currency, of the investment costs.
